ALEXANDRIA, VA - Assisted Living Executive, the magazine of the Assisted Living
Federation of America, released its annual list of the Largest 50 Assisted Living
Companies in the United States. The list appears in the April issue.
The top 5 companies, ranked by total assisted living resident capacity, are:
- Sunrise Senior Living
- Brookdale Senior Living
- Alterra Healthcare Corp.
- Atria Senior Living Group
- Emeritus Assisted Living
Mergers and acquisitions over the past year dramatically changed the lineup of top
companies this year. Brookdale and Alterra merged to create the No. 2 company on
the list. And Benchmark Assisted Living (No. 12), American Retirement Corp. (No.
9), Summerville Senior Living (No. 8), and Five Star Quality Care (No. 11) all posted
significant acquisitions as well.
Summerville was the top capacity grower last year, with growth of 81 percent, followed
by Benchmark, with growth of 65 percent. With the large number baby boomer retirees
expected in the next few years, the strength of the nation's top providers is especially
good news. Many companies predict continued growth in their operations as well.
The annual Assisted Living Executive Largest Providers list is the definitive ranking
of the largest providers in the business. Research is compiled by the staff of Assisted
Living Executive from surveys and interviews with assisted living providers.
