Over the past few months Kisco upgraded the two-bedroom two-bath cottages, differentiating these homes from any other Independent Living options in the area. Interiors now include granite countertops, crown mouldings, tile floors, upgraded carpet and new paint schemes. The exteriors were enhanced with the addition of shaded patio covers and three all-new paint schemes, with additional landscaping on the way. “The response to the cottages has been terrific,” says Donny Veal, Executive Director. “But even more exciting is the complete renovation of the wellness and fitness center. The new flooring, equipment and mirrored wall have made this area an integral part of our “Art of Living Wellsm.”

In the works are plans for a covered drop off at the main entrance, a new computer lab and enhanced library. Future upgrades are expected to include a new great room/den with a display kitchen for cooking demonstrations, private family dinners and parties, a pet park and enhanced landscaping and walking paths throughout the campus. Kisco is also planning to add a new assisted living “plus” and memory care building on a vacant parcel adjacent to the existing building at the corner of Eckhert and North Hollow.

The changes have not all been just about the physical building and community. The level of engaged associates serving the residents has also reached a new high. Starting from the top, Donny Veal joined VSA as Executive Director in October, 2010. A native Texan, Donny attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Economics, Political Science, and Texas History. Donny has 10 years experience in senior care in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana; serving as director of senior centers; a manager of senior living communities; and as a Regional Director of Operations. A hallmark of Veal’s career while serving seniors has been a passion for continuous improvement in resident relations and building team cohesiveness.

His team includes two outstanding sales directors in Andrea Ramirez and Alesia Jackson. Ramirez started her VSA career as a sales director in 2009. Past experience in property management, sales management and as a Family Service Supervisor has enabled her to provide quality service to the community’s prospects and residents. Jackson joined VSA as a Sales Director in October, 2010. She has over 15 years experience in the Sales & Marketing Healthcare industry including roles as an Assistant Executive Director and a Regional Director of Marketing.

Villa de San Antonio’s new Wellness Directory Darryl Greer brings much to VSA. His experienced track record includes two years in El Salvador with the US Peace Corps and most recently as the Program Supervisor for the Methodist Healthcare Ministries here in San Antonio. “I’ve worked in grass roots communities and areas with very little community support or resources,” says Greer. “I spent a lot of time asset building and creating an empowerment model. I’m excited to be at VSA, a community with so many amenities and services plus an enthusiastic group of residents and associates.”
